Writing About Mental Health

Hi book friends!

October is Mental Health Awareness Month, an issue close to my heart and writing. I’m honoured that Secret Lives was included in this stunning list of books c/o BookTrib and WFWA, attempting to break the silence around mental health, combat stigma, and foster a more empathetic world.

I try to approach mental health through a cultural lens, knowing that one’s background can greatly influence how mental health is approached, both personally and within families, and these nuances can dramatically impact the kinds of support people have access to and the outcome of their lives. I explored this first in “Side by Side,” the book of my heart, and again in “Secret Lives of Mothers & Daughters.”

Now more than ever it’s important to take care of our health and well-being. Take good care of yourselves and I hope you can check out the books in this list soon. 💜💜💜
